Fair Food is an Auckland charity that’s passionate about feeding people, not landfill. We hunger for a world where everyone has what they need.
OUR PURPOSE
We are the charity behind the charities, equipping community groups with fresh food, so they can help people heal. Fair Food works alongside other orgs because poverty is time-consuming, and you deserve to get all your needs met in as few stops as possible.
HOW IT WORKS
We’re a simple solution to the complex problems of climate change and food insecurity.
Every day, our trucks visit local supermarkets and food producers to take their surplus food to fill the fridges of transitional housing and domestic violence shelters.
We partner with schools, young mums groups, food banks, those sleeping rough and many, many more community orgs. See our recipient map for assistance near you.
By keeping this great fresh food out of landfill, we help the planet by minimising greenhouse gas emissions.
HUNGER IS HUGE
Hunger is an invisible problem, but it’s happening all around us.
A third of Kiwis have less than $500 in savings, and food becomes the flexible expense when bills are due or you have unexpected costs like a school camp or flat tyre.
New Zealand produces enough food to feed 40 million people, yet 40 % of us are experiencing food insecurity. One in four kids go to sleep hungry in homes where there’s sometimes or often no food.
Meanwhile, more than ⅓ of all food produced gets wasted. The greenhouse gas emissions from food waste pollutes as much as road transport emissions globally.
OUR IMPACT
We don’t celebrate the fact that we’re in a growth industry. Behind these millions of meals are thousands of families who should not have to ask for a food parcel. Higher volumes mean more waste, more hunger, and more greenhouse gas emissions.
We are incredibly inspired by the ways our community comes together to make sure no child feels the anxiety of wondering when they will next get to eat.
