“The food we re-distribute reaches thousands of homes every week and yet no-one would know who we are because Fair Food is essentially the ‘charity behind the charities’. This collaboration with Naked Locals means we can raise awareness of who we are, so more people will know more about our mission, food rescue and why this is an awesome cause to support” said Melissa Crawford, Board Chair – Fair Food Charitable Trust.
Fair Food loves the opportunity to promote West Auckland kai so are delighted to partner with The Aussie Butcher New Lynn and welcome owner Reuben Sharples as Fair Food’s newest Ambassador.
Aussie Butcher New Lynn have always led by example, investing in and giving back to the community they are part of. Reuben and his wife Katie are not only generous donors and ambassadors, but Katie also volunteers her time in Fair Food’s Conscious Kitchen.

“Fair Food is a fantastic organisation making a difference in West Auckland,” shares Reuben. Every week Fair Food supports over 50 charity groups operating on the frontline providing wraparound support in West Auckland. “This is why Katie and I decided to become a partner with Fair Food and create a brighter, healthier future in West Auckland,” shares Reuben.
“Fair Food is humbled that Reuben and Katie have chosen to help so many families heal by receiving the highest quality food when they need it most,“ says Fair Food GM Michelle Blau. “The generosity of their family will help thousands of people get back on their feet during a challenging time.”

We are thrilled to be joining forces with our favourite sustainable ice cream brand Little Island to collab on a new Banoffee flavour. It’s an innovative use of surplus ingredients of the world’s most popular fruit – bananas.
“Looking after our environment and our people with real tangible actions is central to Little Island’s business ethos,” says Little Island Executive Director Wade Gillooly.
“Little Island is stoked to partner with Fair Food and their amazing team. Fair Food does an incredible job providing kai to local communities and families. It’s incredible to see the quality of kai from supermarkets and food companies across Auckland and the care and support that goes into keeping it from landfill.
Fair Food General Manager Michelle Blau shares Wade’s enthusiasm, “Bananas are abundant at our Hub, and we’d have to bake more than 100 cakes a day to get through our surplus once we’ve filled all the pantries and pātakas in Auckland. We love being able to give this humble fruit a glow up into an ice cream that a-peels to everyone.”
“It’s an authentic full circle story… we are supplying supermarkets and our customers with a sustainable and delicious, NZ made, Banoffee Ice Cream using rescued bananas with Fair Food, nice huh!” says Wade.
Keen to get your hands on the goodness? It’s available now at all New Worlds across the North Island with more stores to follow. Every purchase you make helps to share kai with whānau getting support in domestic violence shelters, transitional housing, and other social services
Fair Food’s Conscious Kitchen is benefitting from kaumātua cooking knowledge through an innovative recipe partnership with Oceania – Retirement & Aged Care Living.
During a 9-week recipe competition, residents submitted over 170 recipes using their generational knowledge in the kitchen, primarily focusing on minimising food waste. Driving the project amongst Oceania’s residents was Resident Experience Manager Julia Biggs,
“This was a fantastic opportunity to tap into our resident’s generational knowledge of preparing and cooking quality food. Many of our residents would have grown up with the ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ mindset, so making sure no food goes to waste was second nature to them. We were overwhelmed at the response we got, and it was a real joy to see family favourite recipes submitted, some of which were created generations ago.” Julia Biggs, Oceania Retirement and Aged Care Living.
“When we first heard about Fair Food, we were very moved by the positive impact that they have on the community. At Kitchen Things, we help people get the most out of their appliances and at Fair Food, they help people get the most out of food, so we felt a strong alignment. Being a New Zealand, intergenerational family business, we were delighted to donate the kitchen and a suite of new Inalto and Smeg kitchen appliances that can further help Fair Food to maximise the use of food they rescue,” shares Rachel Louie, Managing Director of Jones Family Business and Kitchen Things.
